Review: Good Smile Company 1/8th scale Ultimate Madoka

GSC’s 1/8th scale Ultimate Madoka finally came in a few days ago!

The main protagonist Kaname Madoka from the popular anime series Puella Magi Madoka Magica Maho shoujou reaches her Ultimate form at the end of the anime series and with her beauty, it is no surprise that a figure would be dedicated to this goddess.

IMG_1355Another gigantic box in the collection after LIW miku DX.

IMG_1404After much effort, she is finally out of the box!

This has got to be one of the hardest PVC to shoot up till now; the figure is just so overwhelming and packed with details that its hard to focus on anything. OR maybe we are just too noob…hahaha.

One of the key features of this figure has got to be the base and the stand.

IMG_1430Using the dress as a camouflage for the stand was indeed a brilliant idea to create the illusion of Madoka in mid air. This has got to be the first PVC I have seen to use such creativity to get rid of the traditional transparent stand to hold “in the air” figures. Thumbs up to the sculptor and his team!

IMG_1433I am totally in love with the galaxy themed dress she is wearing, it just so pretty! Of course Madoka’s legs are sculpted really nicely too.

IMG_1428Ultimate Madoka comes together with two different bows for you to choose from.

IMG_1386For some reasons, we had difficulty fixing the bows in the case of the bloomin’ bow. It took us quite some time to find the center of gravity for the bow as it just kept falling over and over. Fortunately, we finally got it in place and of course we would be displaying her with the bloomin’ bow after so much effort!

IMG_1449The white ribbons on her head were kind of dusty so we had to dust them off.

IMG_1444One thing I dislike about this figure is definitely the sculpting of her hair. I know it’s suppose to create a “wind blowing” effect but it is just so messy and all over the place in my opinion.

Last but not least, who would have forgotten about our goddess’s pair of wings!

IMG_1446Fantastic job on the color gradient of the wings!

IMG_1422Although the wings were crafted really well, GSC continues to remind us how hard it is to fix their parts together. The right wing was especially difficult to fit in due to the locks of hair as you can see below.  I look forward to a day where I do not have to struggle with parts from GSC figures.

IMG_1423And with the pair of wings, GSC’s 1/8th Ultimate Madoka is finished!

After asking around, I think I am just unlucky. Everyone else seems to have no problem with the bow except for me. I’m sure the Ultimate Madoka has impressed everyone but unfortunately, it just did not impress me. I did not like the way the hair flows and it’s so hard to take a good photo of her maybe because she is so impressive at every angle that it’s almost impossible to squeeze it all in one picture.
